Superb early engraving depicting Bristol by Frans Hogenberg for the famous work "Civitates Orbis Terrarum". Produced in conjunction with George Braun this six volume work was the first atlas of town plans covering the world. The Bristol plan (more properly called a bird's eye view) being one of the earliest British cities depicted in the work. A large number of the city's churches are identified in the panel to the left.
