Attractive early map of the region by Gerard Mercator, from a French text edition of his Atlas. Early colour. Historically, Transylvania is a region of Romania. The map elegantly depicting its situation as a central plain surrounded by mountainous areas. To the bottom right is a decorative strapwork cartouche intertwined with flora and fruit. Some staining is confined to the margins but otherwise a good copy.
